UNRATED SECTIONS
Novice 2 Open to 2nd-6th Grade students rated under 500, or Unrated. Students play 4 Rounds. If total round time exceeds 1 hour, clocks will be provided with 5 minutes per player. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants. Approximate end time 2:30 PM.
Novice 1 Open to Pre-K – 1st Grade students with ratings under 400, or Unrated. Students play 4 Rounds. If total round time exceeds 1 hour, clocks will be provided with 5 minutes per player. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants. Approximate end time 2:30 PM.
No Score Open to Pre-K – 1st Grade students. Players must be unrated. Students play 4 rounds, with extra supervision and guidance. Players should understand the basic rules of chess and understand how the pieces move. All players receive a participation trophy. Approximate end time 1:30 PM.

Future - Masters K-12 rating 1300+ G70/d5, 3 Rounds. Top 12 rated players in Future Masters will be in a quad. Quad placement based upon live ratings as of the Friday prior to each tournament. Blitz for 1st if needed. Trophies to top 10, Medals for all other participants. Blitz for 1st if needed. Trophies for Top 5 in Future Masters, Medals for all other participants.
Classic – K-12 rating 1000-1299 G60/d5, 3 Rounds. Blitz for 1st if needed. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants.
Reserve – K-12 U1100 G40/d5, 4 Rounds. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants.
Booster – K-8 U800 G40/d5, 4 Rounds. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants.
Primary – K-3 U600 G40/d5, 4 Rounds. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants.
K-1 – K-1 U500 G40/d5, 4 Rounds. Tiebreakers will be used if necessary. Trophies for Top 10, Medals for all other participants.

SECTIONS & START TIMES:

SECTION START TIMES: 9:15 a.m. - Future Master & Classic (MUST CHECK IN BY 9:00).
9:30 a.m. - Reserve & Booster (no check in required).
10:00 a.m. - Primary, K-1, Novice 2, Novice 1 & No Score (no check in required).

Schedule – Please arrive 15-30 minutes before start of first round.

8:30 – 9:00 a.m Required check in for Future Masters and Classic sections. Pairings posted at 9:00 AM.
9:15 a.m Future Masters and Classic sections begin.
9:45 a.m Reserve and Booster sections begin. Please arrive by 9:15.
10:00 a.m No Score, Novice 1, Novice 2, K-1 and Primary sections begin. Please arrive by 9:30.

 Entry Fee and other information

  • Early Registration until the Monday before the start of the tournament at 11:00 p.m. – $45.
  • Late Registration until Saturday, the day before the tournament, at 12:00 p.m. – $55.
  • No on site registration.
  • Free Entry to participants rated over 1600.
  • New Feature! The top 12 participants in the Future Masters section will be placed in quads. The placement will be based upon the latest supplement.
  • Financial assistance is available, please e-mail our coaching staff at Chess@Avenues.org for discount code information.
  • In the Quads/Future Master and Classic sections, the Tournament Director may request participants to move up from lower rated sections  prior to start of first round to ensure that an even number of participants compete.
  • Byes are not permitted in the Quads/Future Master or Classic sections. A maximum of one 1/2 point bye is permitted in all other sections.
  • $10 fee to switch sections on day of the tournament. To switch before please e-mail Chess@Avenues.org.
  • All children under 18 must be supervised by parent or guardian. Please provide a phone number for a parent or guardian at sign up.
  • Participants may be moved into higher sections at the tournament director's discretion. Considerations will be made if a post supplement rating significantly exceeds a given rating cap. Please contact info@gmchessacademy.com if you would like to move up.
  • By signing up your child for this tournament you agree and acknowledge that photos taken during the event may be used for tournament promotional materials by Growing Minds Chess Academy.
  • Refunds or credits to a future event will only be provided if requested at least 24 hours prior to the start of the tournament.
  • Nearby Trains: Broadway (N/R trains), Lexington (6 train), Sixth Avenue (F/M Trains), Seventh Avenue (#1 train) and 8th Avenue trains (C/E) all stop at 23rd Street.
  • If walking after getting off at the 23rd street stop, walk west on 23rd street towards 10th Avenue, then turn right (north) onto Tenth Avenue and walk two blocks to the school.
